HLRT ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF 13 ACRES ON JOHNNIES CREEK
The Hulsey Little River Trust is pleased to announce that we closed on a deal to protect 13 acres on Johnnie’s Creek in the Little River watershed of northeast Alabama. Johnnie’s Creek is a major tributary of the Little River. It flows into Little River Canyon just upstream of Canyon Mouth Park at the southern end of Little River Canyon National Preserve. HLRT purchased 3 acres on the south side of Johnnie’s Creek and signed an agreement to secure an additional 10-acre donation on the north side of Johnnie’s Creek in April of 2012. The 3-acre parcel is accessible by paved road on the Little River Canyon National Preserve Scenic Drive. This acreage will serve as a memorial site for Shane Harper Hulsey and an area to provide education about the unique canyon ecosystems found in the watershed. The property boasts a scenic overlook of Johnnie’s Creek canyon, a spectacular view of the confluence of Johnnie’s Creek with the Little River and a small spring.
